- February, 2011: "Enforcing Similarity Constraints With Integer Programming For Better Scene Text Recognition" (David Smith, Jacqueline Feild, Erik Learned-Miller) is accepted as a poster at CVPR 2011.
- July, 2010: Vidit Jain successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis, titled "Using Context to Enhance the Understanding of Face Images". He has accepted a job with Yahoo! Research in Bangalore, India. Congratulations to Dr. Jain!
- July, 2010: Erik Learned-Miller, in collaboration with Graphics graduate student Blake Foster and Graphics professor Rui Wang, has produced a real-time pan-tilt camera using off-the-shelf components and a new tracking algorithm. The work, including all of the components used, and freely downloadable software, is detailed on the UMass Graphics blog. It was recently a featured item on the Make Magazine blog.

- July, 2007 : Professors Learned-Miller and Hanson receive a grant from the National Eye Institute to develop technology to assist people with visual impairments.
- February, 2007 : Vision Lab meetings will be held Thursdays from 4:00-5:00 pm in room 304 of the Computer Science Building. Everyone is welcome but please read the paper for the week if you plan to attend. Papers will be sent out to the vismeetlist preceeding the talk.
